I was a PhD neuroscientist before becoming a physician and neurologist. I have several answers.

The average neuroscientist has sub-sub-specialized on their thesis and postdoctoral areas so much that they no longer can be considered to be knowledgeable about the brain in general.
The formal training of Psychiatrists and Psychologists veers away from general brain knowledge.
In this group, I vote for neurologists.
The most generally brain knowledgeable person I ever knew was a Neurologist with Boards in Neuropathology, Dr. John Moossy (In Memoriam). Of course, he was aided by the ability to remember at any moment every literature citation he had ever encountered and by the artistic ability to draw any fiber path of any part of the nervous system. Despite his extreme academic excellence, his bedside manner and teaching style was practical, humane and just awe inspiring. So I really give it up for Neuropathologists.
Which gets to the real point. Physicians represent a special group of high achievers. There are few “average” ones. In any large group of docs, it could be the Internist or anesthesiologist who has the most brain knowledge. Sometimes, to my surprise, it’s the Neurosurgeon.
