Aspects of the Neurology of ADHD - ADD - Hyperactivity

...

What are the denial stages of ADHD pre-diagnosis, particularly in men?

There’s a difference between a diagnosis of ADHD (common) and finding effective treatment (less common). Prior to diagnosis some with ADHD may believe that they can learn their way out of ADHD (perhaps with a memory course), study their way out of ADHD (more hours time on task), etc. Then, slowly, they may become aware of neurological challenges like epilepsy and say to themselves, it can’t be epilepsy (grand mal, petit mal). Due to perhaps a (false) religious mindset, they may (falsely) believe that brain-mind medicines do not work for anyone. They may also (falsely) believe that ADHD is some sort of mysterious allergy or a lack of a vitamin, mineral, or trace element. Eventually, they may accidentally or purposely discover that the right stimulant medicine opens a whole new world to them (for a number of hours). Then they can slowly realize that aspects of ADHD are explained by the field of neurology. They slowly become aware of concepts like auditory processing (APD/CAPD), sustained attention, working memory, aphantasia, prosopagnosia, unilateral neglect,, narcolepsy, etc. Partial answers follow - productive reading - insights into attentional control - neurology:

- Remarkable Medicine book (Dreyfus)
- How To (Temporarily) Cure Hyperactivity book (about Inattentive ADHD relief) (Brothers)
- The Hyperactive Child book (Renshaw)
- Nerves in Collision book (Alvarez).

Does anyone believe ... may be the best source in the world to help ADHD?
